About the Workshop

CDS’s Training organisation ACDCS.edu.au is offering this introductory workshop as an Introduction to Person Centred Active Support.

Person Centred Active Support is an evidence based approach that teaches disability professionals how to provide the right amount of support for people with disability to be engaged in meaningful everyday activities of their choice.

This highly engaging and interactive workshop led by Dr Michael Millington and Dr Sharon Kerr  provides an introduction to Person Centred Active Support (PCAS) with a focus on:

  • the evidence base
  • the approach
  • why PCAS is important
  • what PCAS looks like
  • how you can make PCAS work in your organisation

Intended Audience:

This one day workshop held online over 2 x 2 hour sessions is suitable for anyone working in the disability field such as direct support professionals, schools with students with a disability,  group home/day program staff and staff in management positions. All participants are provided with a certificate of participation from ACDCS.

Presenters

Dr Michael Millington MA Ph.D Cert IV T&A, brings to ACDCS a wealth of experience and knowledge in the area of disability and community services.  With experience as both a practitioner and researcher in the areas of rehabilitation psychology, special education and education psychology, Michael has specialisation in supporting people with a disability in the workplace along with the empowerment of people with a disability, advocacy and inclusive community development.  Having published over 90 academic papers, reports and book chapters, Michael brings a strength of evidence based practice to the courses taught by ACDCS.  Michael believes in a lived philosophy based on social justice values and has framed his career on  the personal/professional mission, “Full community inclusion in a fully inclusive community”

Dr. Sharon Kerr has had over 30 years experience working with students with a wide range of disabilities and is widely recognized as having expertise in maximizing student engagement for students with intellectual, sensory, learning, psychological and physical disabilities. Her PhD thesis was in the area of supporting Indigenous students with a disability.
